A New Year & A New Semester :)

I cannot believe it is already here! Though out schedule has been somewhat diverse lately because of the winter weather, I believe we have had a wonderful start into the second semester! I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to meet new students and having the opportunity to learn more about them, while also seeing past students' smiling faces in the hall. I look forward to our journey together this semester and hope that we are all about to learn and experience new things inside and outside of the classroom!

The Beginning of A New Novel!!

We have moved on to a new novel for our next unit!! Things Fall Apart is a well-written novel which tells the story of African American life in Nigeria and the Igbo Culture from a first-hand experience. Through the eyes of an African American which witnessed and survived the arrival of the Europeans to their land, and shortly after, he felt the need to tell an accurate depiction of his life and culture, instead of having others write about his life through their words.

A Few Quotes to Consider!

There is no rule on how to write. Sometimes it comes easily and perfectly; sometimes it's like drilling rock and then blasting it out with charges. Ernest Hemingway

There are events which are so great that if a writer has participated in them his obligation is to write truly rather than assume the presumption of altering them with invention. Ernest Hemingway

That is what we are supposed to do when we are at our best - make it all up - but make it up so truly that later it will happen that way. Ernest Hemingway

Today Begins a New Semester.. and a Clean Slate!

Two quotes to consider throughout the first day of the NEW semester...

"What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have!"

-Sculptor's Attitude

"We must look for ways to be an active force in our own lives. We must take charge of our own destinies, design a life of substance and truly begin to live our dreams."

As The Semester Comes to an End....

I have to say that throughout this semester I have had a wonderful experience, not only with my students and OSTE, but also with the other people within the TED 551 class. Having the opportunity to share all of the experiences that we have had in the variety of schools which we intern has been extremely enlightening! Looking back on the first day of class, I now recognize the various teaching styles within our one class! I cannot say that one style is alike, but we are able to explore the teaching strategies that each of us have put into practice in our classrooms.

I am thankful for the experience that I have had, and I find it hard to leave sometimes! My students are great and my OSTE is very supportive. Though I am going to miss the group of students that I currently work with dearly, I am sure I will see them around in the halls, and I look forward to getting to know the new students next semester! I am also EXTREMELY excited to have the opportunity to help as an Assistant Coach for the Northeast Rams Varsity Softball Team!!! Sooo... I encourage you to come out and cheer us on as we work towards building a great program and dominate on the field this Spring!

Top 4 Educational Quotes of the Month!

It is amazing what you stumble upon... I was simply looking for a quote for class and I must say I really enjoyed these... especially Everett's quote!!

An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you know and what you don't.
Anatole France

Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army.
Edward Everett

Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.
Will Durant

Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is, not a preparation for life; education is life itself.
John Dewey

Motivational Quote of the Day!

USE YOUR IMAGINATION TO FIND SUCCESS Visualize what you want. See it, Feel it, Believe in it. Your mind is a mental workshop. You can build anything in it. Make your mental blueprint, And begin to build. The beginning is in your imagination; First think, then organize your thoughts into plans Then transform your thoughts into reality by taking some positive action. Use your imagination to perceive your reality, Even when it is not fully materialized. You must first see it clearly in your mind Before you can do it. First visualize and then actualize your way To success. You really can live your dreams. All you need to do is try.

Today is the Day...8 years ago TODAY, we went to War...

Today marks the day in which we went to war after the attack on September 9th, 2001. Here are a few things to think about....
  • More troops have been deployed in this war than ever before; 65,000 are in Afghanistan today.
  • We have lost 869 U.S. Soldiers lives in the past eight years
  • This war has lasted twice the length of time as World War II
  • It has cost 300 billion dollars which has been spent in pursuit of a man who continues to elude the might of the American Military.
