This I Believe

I believe that every student should have equal opportunity within the classroom
I believe that we should give students a chance to work in order to keep and "A" rather than struggle to work to get an "A", this may reduce much frustration and stress!
I believe that a healthy and comfortable classroom environment is vital for students learning
I believe as Teachers, we should also be listeners and responders, not only responders
I believe that as teachers, we can learn just as much from our students as they learn from us

When I grow up, I want to be a Teacher!!

I must say that from the time that I was a small girl I admired all of my teachers, and I especially wanted to follow in my first grade teacher, Mrs. Johnson's footsteps. I feel as if every year I took on a new identity and I found something I liked more than the year before. I began by asking Mrs. Johnson if I could take home extra hand outs, which I would hand out to all of my stuffed animals and teach them what I had learned that day. This progressed into handing out worksheets to my little sister and brother, and making them play with me! As the years went on, I wanted to be a second grade teacher, then a third, and fourth. This continued through high school, when I was finally able to intern for various age groups and levels. I began in a fourth grade, teaching at Durant Road Elementary, and shortly discovered I desired to work with older students. I then moved on to counsel middle school students at the YMCA, and I must say that was fun, but challenging. They were everywhere! So after a semester of working with younger students, I began working in three high school classrooms with various teachers. I had Biology with Mrs. Stiles, English 11 with Mrs. Travers (whom is a mentor of mine), and English 9 with Mr. Calabria. I fell in love with this level and I promised myself that I would begin with high school and work my way up to college after! I have always desired to be a positive influence on others, especially when regarding education and gaining knowledge, in and outside of the classroom. I have always enjoyed English, and discussion based classes myself, and I hope to touch on multiple subjects in my class so that we are able to discuss what we as a class were able to learn through our experiences, our readings, and writing that we have written over the years, and what we have received out of it. I look forward for being that inspirational person that my teachers were for me. They were able to expand my knowledge and at times, I know that I was able to expand theirs as well. I know that I will learn just as much from my students over the years as they learn from me, and I look forward to every minute of it! It all begins with an enthusiatic attitude, an open mind, hard work, and motivation!
